What's the difference between a Trikke T12 Roadster and T8 Sport?     Date added: 07/23/2009

So how do you decide between Trikke's T8 and T12?  What are the differences?  Which one is better?  How do you know you're getting the one that's just right for you?

Most people who own a T12 will tell you straight up - get a T12!  ... and why not?  It's got 12" all-air tires, dual rear independent disc brakes, and can run over small children with no problem at all!  The T12 is the biggest, baddest (and some will argue the fastest) Trikke ever designed!

But does that make it the BEST?  For some... yes!

How about Trikke's T8 Sport?  Suppose you want something a bit lighter weight, a bit zippier, a bit easier to throw around.  Suppose you want something that'll be easier to get in and out of your car - something that'll fit into a trunk - something that's a bit lower to the ground.

Tough call!

Before reading further - here's a little video we did a while back that we think will better explain a few features and benefits of each model.

So from the video, as you can see there are quite a few things to consider when deciding between a T8 and T12.  What it boils down to at the end of the day is your riding style - nothing more.  Both have the exact same components in the folding and cambering system, exact same materials making up its overall structure, and they both have all-air tires to provide a much smoother ride than polyurethane wheels found on other models.

With that said - here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding these Trikkes:

Q.  Can you upgrade the bearings in a T12 Roadster?

A.  YES!  However, they require a bigger bearing than what's installed in other Trikke models, so you need to check the sizes when upgrading to ensure you get some that fit.  The size you want to look for are 10mm x 26mm x 8mm for the T12, and 8mm x 22mm x 7mm for the T8 and all smaller Trikkes.  The standard-sized bearings you find at skate shops (and our site) for rollerblades and skateboards are 8mm x 22mm x 7mm (unless otherwise specified).

Q.  What is the max rider weight of each model?

A.  Trikke Tech, Inc. recommends a max rider weight of 250 lbs (about 114 kg) on both the T8 and the T12.

Q.  How much do the T12 and T8 weigh?

A.  Fully assembled, the T12 weighs roughly 32 lbs (about 15 kg), and the T8 weighs roughly 25 lbs (about 12 kg).

Q.  What's the recommended rider height for the T12 and T8?

A.  Trikke Tech, Inc. recommends a T12 rider's height to be between 5'4" and 6'10".  The recommended rider height for the T8 is between 5'3" and 6'5".

Q.  What are these Trikkes made of?

A.  The T12, T8, and Trikke SKKI are the only Trikkes currently in production made of Aircraft-Grade Aluminum.  All other models are made of steel.

Q.  How do they fold?

A.  Both the T12 and T8 have a pull-and-twist quick-release pin system on each trailing arm.

Q.  Which one is better?

A.  Whichever one you want!
